  CHARGE AGAINST HARBOR-MASTER PATTEN.Some
time ago, it may be recollected, one N.W. Russell
entered a complaint at the Mayors office against
Capt. Willis Patten, one of the Harbor-Masters of this
port, in which it was charged that he had taken, in
certain cases, illegal fees. Gov. King, upon investi-
gating the charge, has dismissed the complaint and
fully exonerated Capt. Patten in the premises. We
make this statement in justice to a worthy and deserv-
ing man and faithful officer, who has been unjustly
assailed in this matter.
