Ere Willie was born, ere �Kitten� appeared
And the Pillows were shavers with never a
	beard:
�Twas long ere we�d Gunn with his wonderful
	Store
Of hearty old songs and jolly old lore,
With his broad-brimmed hat and his clustering
	Curls,
His brave Saxon beard and moustache that
	he twirls
The wonder of men and the joke of the girls,
	Who lose ne�er a chance to attack it;
He, I know is a hard, old, critical crust,
But the probe of trial I�ve downward thrust,
And a heart below I�ve found to trust,
As manly, as tender, as [unclear word] and as just
	As ever throbbed under a jacket!
And the Nichols� tree �twas long ere it spread,
In five fair branches to honor its head,
  �������������������������������
  The Rogers children.
   Parton�s three half-brothers, the result of his
mother�s second marriage; not a happy one, as I 
judge, for the pair have separated, are, perhaps,
divorced.   Jim had one brother, to whom he was
much attached, who died about the age of twenty.
