aught above common-place. I talked of the Spirit-world, of Creed, of
Geologic-wonders, of History, of the great Kingdoms, which like the sea-born
islands of the Mediterranean rise up out of the deep of Time, to be again sub-
merged, of Our Race and destiny: all Joe said was but giving me
back mine own remarks in clumsier phrase. He saw it all, perhaps un-

wards, enthusiastically applauded, especially by boys. This appeals but to the
Senses, therefore is easily understood by the many. Subsequently a farce.
  2. Tuesday. Mason came inviting me, as before to a Hudson-river vag-
abondize for three or four days continuance; agreed to go. A letter
from Dillon. Wrote a reply informing them of Mrs Richardsons death.
