inexpressibly beautiful hues of Autumn.  Of a deep purple, light
yellow, green of all shades � slate and amber tinted rocks � all
lovely. Leaves falling with a quiet, deliciously mournful sound ;
Wandered across the little burial place, where a child-brother of Ben
lay.    /		Afternoon and rest of the day, rain setting
in sans intermission, did not stir out.      Evening; all fumigating
around the stove in the kitchen, Rankin, Sandy, Ben, Wing,

  22. Monday.  Drawing till Evening. Then a bit of a walk, and 
backgammon with Wing.	Joe unwell and consequently sulky.
  23. Tuesday. Drawing in the morning. Sent off a letter to Mr
Hart, apropos of the �Cholera Series�.   Afternoon to New York, to
Baker�s; to the �Bubble� office, to the �American Tract Society� � the
two last calls necessary to be done again, as there was nobody visible. /
Backgammon and fumigation with Wing, at Night.
24. Wednesday. Drawing all day.  Joe off for Middletown
