              ted.     Back, and  to reading and scrib-
bling, in our room.
  18.  Sunday.   With Howell to 
the Provost  Marshal�s, in the hopes 
of obtaining a mail.  Got only a letter
to me from Shaw (directed �Head 
Gorilla� and signed �Hyena.�)  To 
steamboat Iberville, just came in, then
to Gen Grover�s Headquarters, then to
post-office and quartermasters � all
in search of what we did not obtain, let-
ters and newspapers.    To house, and 
shortly afterwards, the three of us to the
levee with intent to send notes by the Iber-
ville, but she had started.      Back to
house, and indoors during the rest of 
the rainy day and night.       Mann look-
ed in before sunset, but did not stay.  Wrote 
a long letter to Jack Edwards.
  19.  Monday.   Out in triumvirate, to 
the levee.   Hills got newspaper on board
of the ugly little steamer Frank Mumford.
