              that Gen. Banks meditated a trip
up the river tomorrow, as far as Port
Hudson, on board the Richmond  
and that he, Hills, had an invita-
tion to accompany the expedition, and
was to be onboard by 8. A. M.        So
after supper we set off to obtain like
privilege.   At Gen. Augur�s we learnt
that Gen. Banks was on
board the New Brunswick, designing
to sleep there.  To the dark and mud-
dy levee and, after Howell had stum-
bled into an old boat, half full of
water, got rowed to the New Bruns-
wick and saw Gen. Banks, who inform-
ed us that the project was abandoned.
Back again, in company with Col.
Holabird, whom I piloted to Augur�s
and got a general transportation pass
from.      Then to house, finding H. Hills
and Howell.        The former objectionable,
selfish and masterful.          At the
