              playing �Hail to the chief,� and a crowd present.
Cannon firing off in the road at intervals.
All in honor of the Democratic nominee Franklin
Pierce.    Met Lockingtons �Aztec� among the
crowd.     Left and to room.
  10. Thursday.  Breakfasted down town, then
called at Lockingtons, and after other calls, out
with Holbrook to a certain basket and wooden ware
store in Fulton Street.   Made sketches .  To 
room, Lockington coming with block, drew on block,
(saw Waud there,) called on Dickinson, then to
Brooklyn across the South Ferry.   Called at
Dunsiers place � they had cleared out.   Across
Buttermilk Channel to the Island, mighty rough
wind about, and terrific splashing.  Arrived, to
the Hospital, Book talk &c  till 12 or so
then bed.
