              I  
 now am right well satisfied that a
victory in fisty cuffs over either of them would have been
but ill compensated by a black eye to look at Niag-
ara with.  /    Well, we drank at a little
shanty at the side of the fall, and I must needs
sit half an hour with them, which I did gazing
at the profile of the American Fall.  Then, ascent,
it being night.   At the top, sitting looking
at the extreme hedge.     To the Goat Island
Bridge, where I left my inebriated friends, &
leaning over the bridge gazing at the rapids
in the moonlight got talking with three or four
young fellows, one of whom had been under
the Horse Shoe Fall from the Canadian Side that
morning.   Leaving them, they returning to the
village and bed I entered Goat Island, paid
my shilling and across another ridge, the
