Return at sunset.   More rambles, though brief in the evening, &
to-bed with Joe at about 10 1/2.
  16. Monday.  Up by 5, breakfast, paid 75/100 each, into
the waggon (a sort of canvas cart) with Mr Parker, his son & Fred,
rattled to the landing place.       Aboard the boat;  no one stirring.
Half an hour, off we were.             Sometimes on the boats top, some-
times rambling here, there, & everywhere, sometimes sitting on the lux-
uriously cushioned cabin, where the men laughed confidentially with one
another, or the women read novels languidly, unmindful of the green
shores or sparkling water & laughing sky without.      At New
York, Mr Parker left us,  I to my room, Joe accompanying 
me � and staying awhile.    Drawing on wood, out at 1, to
Reveille, Lantern & Post Offices.   Return.   Down town at
7, supped at Goslings, sat two hours or so, then solitarily to
my room, bed & an hours Shakspere.
  17. Tuesday.   Down town, Goslings, Post Office, Lantern Office,
there some time, Butler, Powell, Bellew & others there.   To Wells
& Webb for of blocks.     To Mathews, return to room, drawing.
Dunsier called � to borrow $1.  Lent it.   Hard at work on
Reveille subjects.   Out to Reade Street for dinner, called at
Mr Alcocks.    Work on till past 7, finished big Reveille cut,
one minor & a lot of Rebusses.     Supped off milk & bread.
