  16.  Thursday.   Down town, to Moore St with
intent to call on Hawes � out.        Fed at Goslings,
thence to Lantern, Picayune,   Wells & Webbs &c
and to room by 3.        In doors, drawing on wood &c
the rest of the day.
  17.  Friday.  In doors, drawing all day long.
Field with me the greater part of the day, talking
& turning over portfolio contents.    Mud & wet without.
Evening down stairs in S & F�s room with Waud
& Brown.           Talk, some reading & ale.
  18.  Saturday.     Came Weed, looking like
a fat & weary ghost, having worked unceasingly, immola-
ting himself on the Pictorial Picayune cut.  Down town
with cuts, icy cold, sharp day.    At the Picayune
Office, printing room  & next door with Weed &c, &
about down town till 1, then return to room, did
chores, lit fire & drawing till 5.   Weed & Randall
came, and anon Roberts.     At the �Shades� with the
latter, then down town, to B & P�s.  Got paid $33
then off to Murray St,  Mr Weldon�s.       Found him
