Down town together & I got out of omnibus at office. Dined. To
room. Read the �Maiden & Married Life of Mary Powell�, writing
awhile. Gymnasium in the Evening, cold bath afterwards. Waud
& Damoreau came towards the latter part of the evening. Walked down
town together, Erfords. / Thunder and rain storm at midnight.
19. Thursday. In doors writing all day, save for a run down to
Picayune Office. Letters to my mother, and to Barth. Welden
called for a few moments. Rain out o� doors till the afternoon when
day cleared, and sun light came out. / Evening Burton�s.
20. Friday. Drawing &c. Johns called, & dined with me. Afternoon down town,
and thence
to Brooklyn � Evening called at Beach Street, & playing whist
in Morse�s room with him, Mrs Kidder & another. Below sub-
sequently, & Lotty and her husband coming, talked with Lotty
awhile, leaving at 11.
21. Saturday. Drawing &c. Brightly called. Evening Gym-
nasium. Waud & Damoreau there.
22. Sunday. Waud & Damoreau came early, and as agreed off
across the Hudson to the Jersey shore. A long day�s ramble to Fort
Lee, the country all in its richest spring beauty, hot sunlight
above. Dined on the way at a village tavern. Reaching Fort Lee,
some ten miles or so from Hoboken, we returned by steamboat;
thence walked to the Battery where we took a boat & Waud &
