Digital History Video – Lehigh University

Course Description:

Offered in the spring of 2006, this seven-week course allowed participants to explore new approaches to history. Using documents from the I Remain: A Digital Archive of Letters, Manuscripts, and Ephemera collection, students used text, image, and sound to produce short history documentaries.

The students were asked to select and transcribe a document(s) of interest to them. During the transcription process, a historical question emerged. From this question, students constructed a thesis statement, researched, and wrote an essay.

Students scanned images that supported their essays. These images and edited essays were employed to create storyboards. Students were narrators for their documentaries and several utilized the voices of classmates and faculty. Combining images and audio, the students used iMovie to produce their videos.

Presented here are selections of the students' work.
