0:52:09 John Proctor warns Abigail Williams
John meets Abigail in the woods and threatens her. He tells her she better not accuse his wife.
John: I've come to tell you what to do to save yourself. Say you are blind to spirits. You can't see them anymore. And you will never cry witchery again.
Abigail: I know you must speak so, John. I understand. But my spirit's changed entirely. I suffer now. It's the truth, John. Look! The bite your wife gave me is not yet healed.
John: My wife?
Abigail: Saturday she came into my bedroom in the middle of the night and bited my breast.
John: My wife has not left the house this month.
Abigail: Why must she leave the house to send her spirit on me? Don't George Jacobs come jabbing at me with his walking sticks? Feel the lump he gave me only last night.
John: George Jacobs is locked up in the jail.
Abigail: And thank God he is! They are gonna hang him, ya know? And he prays, ya know, he prays in jail.
John: May he not pray?
Abigail: He talks to me at night while he's praying in the jail. Hypocrite! They all are! Thank God I have the power to cleanse this town of them!
John: Hear me. If you cry witch against my wife, it will be the end of you. I will not have her condemned.
Abigail: I am but God's finger, John. If he will condemn Elizabeth, she will be condemned.
John: You know me. If she is condemned, it will be the end of you.
1:48:00 John and Elizabeth Proctor last time together
Elizabeth is left alone to talk to John before he is to be executed.
John: My child?
Elizabeth: It grows.
John: No word of the boys?
Elizabeth: They're well. Rebecca's Francis keeps them.
John: But you have not seen them.
Elizabeth: No, I have not.
John: They've come for my life now. I'm thinking I will confess, Elizabeth. What say you? If I give them that? If I confess?
Elizabeth: I cannot judge you, John.
John: What would you have me do?
Elizabeth: As you will, I will have it. Oh, I want you living that's sure.
John: How can I mark the scaffold like a saint? I'm not that man. It's a pretense. My honest is broke. Nothing spoilt giving them this lie that were not rotten long before.
Elizabeth: Yet you have not confessed until now.
John: Only spite keeps me silent. It's hard to give a lie to dogs. I would have your forgiveness, Elizabeth.
Elizabeth: It's not for me to give, if you will not pardon yourself. Only be sure that whatever you will do, it's a good man that does it. I have sins my own to count. It needs a cold wife to prompt lechery.
John: Enough, enough.
Elizabeth: It's better that you should know me. You take my sins upon you.
John: No, I take my own. I take my own.
Elizabeth: John, I accounted myself so plain, so poorly made that no honest love could come to me. I never knew how I should say my love. It were a cold house I kept.
John: Oh, my love, my love.
Elizabeth: Forgive me. I never knew such goodness in the world. Oh, John, forgive me. Forgive me, Forgive me.
John: I want my life!
